“Just being around music and my uncles, Andrew Woolfolk, was the Sax player and a longtime member of Earth, Wind & Fire. He played with the band from 1973 to 1985 and again from 1987 to 1993. And HIS BROTHER Darryl Woolfolk who currently plays drums for Gladys Knight, were both successful, and watching my uncles and my dad living my dream cemented my choice for music; they were huge influences.” They were successful and watching them, and my dad live my dream cemented my choice for music;
Yohanna Christofo Wright was born in Denver, Colorado, into a music legacy. From his earliest memory, he saw his father, Johnny Christopher Wright, making music. Yohanna credits his dad as one of the three greatest influences in his life. Johnny, a working R & B musician, performed in and around California. His work ethic and love of his craft were a huge influence. Combining this daily interaction and his relationship with his “uncles by choice,” who were/are musicians, sealed the deal.
How much did your dad and uncles influence you? What did you learn from them about music?
“Just being around music and my uncles, Andrew Woolfolk, was the Sax player and a longtime member of Earth, Wind & Fire. He played with the band from 1973 to 1985 and again from 1987 to 1993. And HIS BROTHER Darryl Woolfolk who currently plays drums for Gladys Knight, were both successful, and watching my uncles and my dad living my dream cemented my choice for music; they were huge influences.” They were successful, and watching them and my dad live my dream cemented my choice for music; that was a big influence.”
With these three great personal musical inspirations, “Chris,” as he was known at the time, began making music.
How much did your environment influence you?
Growing up in Los Angeles, an entertainment mecca, was also a huge influence. I attended Palisades High School, a magnet school for performing arts whose theater department launched the careers of many entertainment greats. My family made the decision to move back to Denver, where I attended Montebello High. While the locations changed, my love for music and my need to express my creativity remained the same.
What type of music did you listen to?
“My personal music appreciation journey began as a preteen, I spent untold hours listening to my father's albums; from the superstars of the day like Prince to established greats like Earth Wind & Fire, George Duke, Stevie Wonder, Sting, Sade, Anita Baker, and George Benson, to name a few.”
Yohanna began developing his ear. He soaked up sound, venturing into other musical genres, and began trying his hand at playing and writing Reggae, Pop, Jazz, Movie Soundtracks, and Dance music.
Did you take any music lessons? “No, I’m self-taught.”
What instruments do you play? “Just drums and keyboard.”
His friends and family took notice and remember him as "a creative young man" "gifted and talented" who "took his keyboard everywhere" and was definitely "destined for greatness"
As Yohanna grew and became proficient at his musicianship, his musical creativity’s evolution was a natural course of events, moving him to write and produce. Doors began to open, and he began working in the music industry; he's traveled with K-Ci and JoJo for years, as well as, MosDef and Living Color.
Yohanna, now known as Silvamayne, has a definite gift that he's sharing with the world in his latest single releases.
When asked, “What do you want from your career?“ He responded, “To put smiles on faces and send happy vibes through music.”
